“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” Dr. Seuss. In honor of Dr. Seuss’ Birthday and National Read Across America Day on March 2nd, the United Way of Central Kansas went to numerous daycares in Barton & Pawnee Counties to read to students. With education being one of the United Way pillars, the United Way of Central Kansas has been working hard to promote childhood literacy for the past year and felt that this would be a great way to encourage reading. Board Members Tama Hanson & Jane Fox went to Caring Hands Daycare in Larned, Erika Brining & Desa Marmie-Behr went to Great Bend Children’s Learning Center, Executive Director Julie Smith went to the Barton Community College CDC, and Becca Maxwell and Ronda Sjogren visited the Ellinwood CDC. All were decked out with Dr. Seuss hats with books and stickers in hand to spend some time with the students and encourage reading. The books that were read were donated to these childcare centers along with Dr. Seuss stickers for each of the students.
