The United Way of Central Kansas made its first appearance this year at the Labor Day festivities in Hoisington. We were honored to be a part of the Touch-A-Truck event at the Hoisington Activity Center. Thanks to our sponsor, Town & Country Supermarket, UWCK served up hot dogs and chips for a free will donation to support Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library. With the help of our co-chairs Randy & Debbie Deutsch and Eric & Tiffany Schoendaler, and board member Regan Reif and her husband Cole Reif, Hoisington Food Bank volunteers Jan Morgenstern and Toni Schneweis, UWCK served up nearly 150 hot dogs and chips to hungry families out enjoying the machinery and trucks that were on display. Thanks to the generosity of the community members who donated, UWCK raised more than $200 at this event, supporting 8 children to receive free books for a year. Putting books in the hands of children is a major initiative for UWCK and with the communities support we are making this a reality in our area. If you would like to sign your child up to receive free books, visit the Hoisington Public Library. This program is open to children age 0-5 who live in the 67544 zip code. Thank you again to the City of Hoisington, our volunteers, Town & Country Supermarket, and the community for letting us be a part of this celebration and we hope to see you again next year at this event!
