With the end of one campaign and the start of another, United Way of Central Kansas is saying good-bye to a few Board Members, and welcoming in some new ones.
United Way of Central Kansas was struck with the loss of long-time Board Member Ron Smith this past month. Ron was an integral part of our Oilfield Campaign each year, and a steadfast supporter of UWCK. He will be deeply missed by our Board, staff, and our Community Partners, all of whom he advocated strongly for. “We are still dealing with Ron’s passing as is our community. He will truly be missed and this will be more evident at our next year Campaign Kick-off in August.” Quote from Gaila Demel, Executive Director.
We are also saying good-bye to Board Members Jane Fox of Farmer’s Bank & Trust in Larned, and Karen VanBrimmer of Hoisington. Jane has been a member of our Board since 2011and has been an important part of our Campaign in Larned ever since. She was a voice for the Larned community, an advocate of United Way, and a volunteer for many of our projects in Larned, such as Literacy Kit distribution and the Santa Fe Trail Days Duck Race. Karen VanBrimmer was only on the UWCK Board for two years, but she was a key part of consolidating Hoisington United Way with United Way of Central Kansas. Karen was the volunteer Director of HUW for close to 10 years before consolidating with UWCK in 2016 and becoming a Board Member. She was a huge part of the success that we have had in Hoisington, helping to bring Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library and Reality U to Hoisington. Karen is a true example of what United Way is about and will be missed as a Board Member very much.
As we say good-bye to these Board Members, we are excited to announce new members of our team. Nancy Baird from Doll Insurance Agency in Ellinwood was a 2018 Campaign Co-Chair. She has already stepped up to the plate with her dedication to starting a new event in Ellinwood, Holiday Date Night. This event was a success its first year and with Nancy’s help, we plan to continue bringing it to Ellinwood year after year. We are equally excited to announce that one of the other Co-Chair couples have agreed to join the board as well. Eric and Tiffany Schoendaler were a great addition to our 2018 Campaign Co-Chair group. Eric Schoendaler, Assistant Vice President at First Kansas Bank in Hoisington and Tiffany Schoendaler with Central Plains Computer Systems have been an amazing asset to UWCK and have already been involved in numerous programs. They shared their professional expertise at Reality U in Hoisington and the Touch-A-Truck event at the Hoisington Labor Day celebration. We are honored that these talented leaders have seen the work that UWCK does in Barton and Pawnee Counties and feel compelled to continue helping us on our mission of supporting our 23 Community Partners and our Community Impact Programs. Quote from Gaila Demel – “It is never easy to lose talented and caring Board Members and our appreciation for their time and generosity is deeply heartfelt. It is wonderful that our Campaign Co-Chairs elected to continue serving United Way of Central Kansas with their strengths and commitment to our good work.”
