2017 Goal Reached

United Way of Central Kansas is excited to announce that they have reached their goal of $275,000 for 2017!  With the hard work of our dedicated board members, our Community Agencies, local businesses, and individual donors, we will be able to support our 23 Community Partners, and continue our work with Community Impact Programs.  This year, United Way of Central Kansas joined forces with Hoisington United Way to consolidate all of Barton and Pawnee Counties.  With that consolidation, UWCK gained two new board members, Bill Lowry and Karen Van Brimmer.  We also added four more agencies that are now being funded by UWCK, Hoisington Community Food Bank, Hoisington Historical Society, Commission on Aging, and Toys for Tots, along with the 19 Community Partners we already fund.  This meant that we had no choice but to meet that goal of $275,000.

The annual campaign to raise funds begins in August with the annual kickoff, which was Stars, Stripes, United Way Forever and that theme carried throughout the campaign.  We wrapped up August with Stuff the Bus in Ellinwood, Great Bend, Hoisington, and Larned.  In October, we brought a new Community Impact Program to the area with Reality U.  This program took place at Great Bend Middle School and was a great success with students, teachers, and parents.  The goal of the program is to teach students more about the finances they will face when they leave home and how the choices that they are making now, will affect their future success and opportunities.  We also did our Poster Contest with the local 5th graders and winners were announced at high school football games throughout our area.  We held our annual Casino Night, with the immense help of the Sidewinder’s Motorcycle Club in Ellinwood, which got us ever closer to our goal.  Outside our fundraising, we also distributed Literacy Kits to Pre-K student, Boxes of Love to homebound seniors, and read to preschoolers for Dr. Seuss day.  Thanks to the support of these programs, our Pacesetter Companies, all our payroll donors, and the individual donors who believe in the work that UWCK does every day, we have met our goal.

Thank you to our incredible Co-Chairs this year; Chuck & Meg Wilson, Kevin & Kista Holt, and Cole & Regan Reif, along with our hard-working board member; Desa Marmie-Behr, Mark Mingenback, John Cross, Dianne Call, Leslie Mingenback, Carol Dema, Regan Reif, Tatum Dunekack, Laura Smith, Jane Fox, Ron Smith, Tama Hanson, Kevyn Soupiset, Becca Maxwell, Karen Van Brimmer, and Bill Lowry.  Without the support of these amazing individuals we would not be able to have the impact that we do across Central Kansas.

“We are incredibly grateful for our giving community.  When you give to United Way you can rest assured that your money is staying local.  We are very pleased that we are not only able to support 23 local non-profit organizations, but also able to provide important Community Impact Programs that directly touch members of our community.”  Julie Bugner-Smith, Executive Director United Way of Central Kansas.
